I'm getting ready to replace the shimmies under all of the sail tracks, they are all completely shot. I'm a bit nervous about the toerail though. Although recently refinished and in good shape, the toerail was bare for some time and quite dried out, just the thought of pulling the genoa track up from the toerail makes me quiver.

Is there any way to guard against future shimmies busting up from where the bolts go thru -- it must have busted in four or five places on each sail track?

I've received a new gauge set that I'm getting ready to install. I'm intrigued by the idea of placing a teak backdrop to mount it on. I realize aesthetically it does not make much sense to do it ankle high where the old one was. I'm curious if anyone has fiddled with its location.

Thanks,
