<DIV>When you say under the sail track, I am assuming you mean under the
Genoa track and Jib track as opposed to the mainsail track on the mast. I
replaced all of mine with 1/8"X3/4"teak strips. I did it in sections each about
18-24 inches long so that the track would still be secured as I went along.
Some of the bolts would not come out and were distorted. I drilled these out and
replaced them. <BR>Worked great, until...</DIV>

<DIV>I decided to get new Genoa cars with a 3 part tackle for moving under
load. The best solution was to get the Harken cars and replace the track
with modern T-track. So ripped them (track and shims) all off, refinished the
rails, plugged the holes that didn't line up with 3M 4200, drilled new ones and
installed all new track. Bent the new track to fit a bolt hole a a time. Should
have done that to start with.</DIV>

<DIV>Really smooth, movable under load, and easier to sheet. I have the old
tracks if anyone wants them. Yours for the shipping. Do yourself a favor and
just replace the track. Doesn't need shims.</DIV>

gauge set that I'm getting ready to install. I'm intrigued by the idea
of placing a teak backdrop to mount it on. I realize aesthetically it
does not make much sense to do it ankle high where the old one was. I'm
curious if anyone has fiddled with its location.</FONT></P>
