I have seen an Alberg 35 with a rub rail such as you describe. It ran from
about a foot forward of the stern to about two feet from the bow. I looked
inside the boat and it was thru bolted with fender washers on the inside. The
owner seem very happy with it and reported no problems. However, I would
suggest you use teak instead of mahogany. You really would not have to
varnish it and it woould last a lot longer. If you don't keep the mahogany
varnished, it will rot fairly quickly.
