The step in the "bridge deck " was originally intended for a box compass.
My boat OWLET # 605 in fact had a hinged lid that covered this step. It is
a lousy position for a compass because it is too close to the engine. As
one gets older it surely is a great step as you climb into the companionway
whose threshold is typically quite high as in all North Sea design boats.I
mounted my compass on the starboard cockpit bulkhead and find that to be a very
good position. Some have mounted the compass on a hinged board that swings
out into the companionway or back in behind the bulkhead out of the way when not
needed. The main thing is to avoid being too close to any metal mass and
wiring that will affect the deviation of the compass.</FONT></SPAN></DIV>

not carpet. Remove, sand, and paint with a 1 or 2 part epoxy. (or a
marine enamel) Many of the boats were painted by owners with a
latex of some sort, which eventually fails, or grows mildew, or both. The
seats and seat backs are plywood, as is the Vberth. Mine were apparently white
as supplied from the factory (#219).</FONT></DIV>

the "<FONT size=2>little compartment just aft of the companionway."

purpose it would be a fine ankle breaker in a seaway. No compass was
supplied with the boats originally, so the builder's intent is not known. It
is commonly used as a compass mount, or a mount for a handheld GPS. I
would bet that most don't use it for anything.....</FONT></FONT></DIV>

acquired hull #276. She's currently on blocks down at Solomon's
getting some survey-identified work done prior to launching. I took my
wife down to see her for the first time today (did I mention we bought her
sight-unseen via the net?). As we went through the boat, a couple
areas caught our attention that I wanted to ask your thoughts

hull from the interior under the hanging cabinets in the salon and behind
the settees....the removal left some foam backing and glue residue on the
interior hull. I'm thinking the right answer is just to sand the foam
and glue remnants down (there's also some deteriorated finish on the
interior glass) and repaint. Any advice concerning how to sand and
what to use to repaint? Was this finish done in plain interior white
in the boats as they came off the line?</FONT></DIV>

recommendation for a compass? Is the little compartment just aft

deteriorated...any info on what kind of wood these were originally?

microwave into the aft starboard salon overhead cabinet. We don't
want/need the appliance, and since the cabinet space is already cut
away, I'm thinking of crafting a cabinet ala Carina Vela as a Nav station in
