<P>We have a charcoal filter mounted under the galley sink. You've all seen them in the marine stores, the are tan colored heavy plastic that take a charcoal insert. One year I left the bottom screwed on with the filter inside. There was a trace amount water in the filter, and it froze and broke the bottom off clean as a whistle. Now I remove it for the winter.<BR><BR>Mike Lehman </P></DIV>

<DIV></DIV>For what it is worth, here in the real north where we have real winters,
<DIV></DIV>I only pump the tank dry and have never experience any problems with
<DIV></DIV>ice. I have flexible tubing from tank to sink and have never
<DIV></DIV>experienced any split line or cracks in the tank.

<DIV></DIV>We've got an inspection plate added to our tank, too. We just pump
<DIV></DIV>out the tank and then sponge out what remains. The lines are pumped
<DIV></DIV>as dry as they can be. We've had no problems, though the winters in
<DIV></DIV>Maryland aren't especially harsh.
<DIV></DIV>
<DIV></DIV>I think the inspection plate is a good idea, and would add one if I
<DIV></DIV>didn't have one. You might worry about leakage, but a little vaseline
<DIV></DIV>on the threads ensures a seal. The leaks are at the original rivets
<DIV></DIV>around the edge of the tank top. (Yes, I've still got to fix that
<DIV></DIV>problem.)
