FAMILY="SANSSERIF">Well. a 14,000 lb rating for a 13,280 lb load does not
seem like overdesign, but then I'm not an engineer. I know that some things
are rated at a percentage of the maximum load under dynamic conditions and
that simple static numerical comparisons like the above wouldn't apply.
Michael designed his trailer. Perhaps he could tell us why he felt he could
get away with two 6000 lb axles for a 13,280 lb load.
Michael?
Paul

FAMILY="SANSSERIF">Hello all,

I am leaving today for another week
trip, but would like to make a few comments, I will send pics to Richard
at a later date.

1) I asked the marina to weigh my boat when it
was on the travelall and they said that it weighed 11,000
lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. All the literature I have read on the A 30
mentions 9,000 lbs displacement. I had the trailer designed abound the
9,000 Lbs figure. Plehaps other can jump in here and tell us the known
weight of their A 30's.

I was bacially shocked and peeing in my pants
when I asked him again if that was correct 11,000 lbs. My trailer
weights 2800 and the GVRW equals 13,200, so I was to be 600 lbs overweight
instead of 1,400 lbs underweight as I had calculated.

My advice to all
is, weight your boats and if they are similar to mine, 11,000 lbs and you plan
on using the tandem axle system then go to the 7,000 lbs axles.

At this
point I don't know what to believe the printed literature on the A 30 or the
weight reported by my marina. The boat is fibreglas and has been out of
the water for a year..........were did all that extra weight come
from??????

2) When I loaded the boat on the trailer the trailer made no
sound at all........that is a good thing. The tyres did not seem over
loaded. We adjusted the boat on the trailer to set the tongue
loading. I then leveled the load with the torsion bars and attached the
anti sway bar and installed three straps around the boat to the
trailer.

3) We made the 250 miles trip in eight hours with no
incidents. The boat trailed behind the 1982 GMC dually pick-up
perfectly. On the turny twisty back roads of Ohio I traveled 35 mph and
on the interstate I drove 45 mph. I slowed to a crawl over any on grade
railroad crossings and generally was very conservative with my driving.
I installed two orange caution flags as well as a "slow moving vehicle
triangle" on the rear of the trailer and only had one motorist honk at me,
angry because I was moving so slow. I pulled off occasionally to allow
other behind me to pass.

4) The final cost of my trailer and
hitch setup was $7,200. When I compare that to the Triad Trailer with
7,000 lbs axles and the same options I arrive at $8,020. A difference
of $810 which would easliy be eaten up by the upgrade to 7,000 lbs axles
and 14 ply tyres.

5) I would say to those on the list to go with
Triad and try to obtain a group order discount. You may do the same or
better in the long run than I have.

6) I am very satisfied
with my trailer, I have gotten many complements on it and it did the job well
for me. I am concerned about the extra weight of the
boat.

7) I did design a nifty arrangement to haul the mast and
boom low on the side of the trailer and used a plug in extra trail light for
the end of the mast.

8) When I have more time I would like to
share some photos of the rig with the A 30 group so that they can see what I
have done and perhaps incorporate some of the design featurs in their
trailers.

Michael Connolly #131<FONT lang=0
