Saran (Cling wrap for some). Also, you could borrow another stand and put it

use of stands involves some insurance risks.

Most of the boat yards I've been at will not let you move the stands. But
if you ask them they will move them for you at no charge. Also, when they pick
the boat up with the travel lift they will paint the areas where the pads were
prior to launch

Question

Question? do you want to paint the hull above or
below the waterline? The
stands should not be touching the hull
above the waterline. If you are
painting below the waterline,
retract one pad at a time and paint underneath
it( Warning!!!! do not
retract more than one stand at any one time. This
could cause the
boat to topple off the stands, OUCH!!). As you continue to
paint and
reach the next stand, go back and place a piece of saran wrap on
the
retracted pad and extend to the hull. Waiting until your reach the
next
stand will allow the paint to start to dry and will be less likely
to stick
to the saran wrap. Repeat this process at each stand
location.

Fair Winds

Larry Morris
Solstice
