Hi Jackie,
I am all open to suggestions as to making a varnished cabin sole safer. there
is nothing more slick or dangerous than a shiny, varnished cabin sole with a
bit of water on it.
I have  found that adding the commercial sand to the last coat to be the best
solution.
You can buy those 'Friction Strips'  that glue on, but then you have to make a
pattern, and as they get old the edges chip and look crummy.
