Is it solid glass?  A lot of the construction uses a 1/4" layer of masonite
as a core (not the hull, but this is not the hull that's getting cut).
Also it is possible for water to wick along single glass strands into the
laminate if it is not sealed.  Not much, but this is an area that can be
wet most of the time.  Sealing the cut edge with epoxy and a band of cloth
is a simple thing, maybe not totally necessary, but it coudn't hurt and it
could help.  You can skip the cloth, but the epoxy coat is a good thing.
