The interlocking cockpit gratings are beautiful, and an accent to the boats
appearance when they are done right, but they are a lot of work to make.
I saw an alternative design on a 25 foot Van de Stadt design, which I am going
to make, when I can.
It's very simple; a few pieces of 1x1 teak are measured and cut to sit
athwartships on the cockpit sole. Then 1x3 pieces, with 1/2 " spaces inbetween
are measure and cut to length to sit for and aft, and fastened on top of the
athwartship pieces. Strong and effective, and built in a fraction of the time
of the interlocking variety.
Best of Luck,
