John, thats the idea.  It's clear you grasp the concept.  Thats why some 
people cut an access pannel in the port locker to allow two handed working.  
You can also pull the plugs, put a cloth over the engine, and crawl over it 
to do the operation.  Lots of luck.  If it needs repacking, I would 
persomnally not try it in the water
