As I said in my posting this is still a work in progress. The U joint was
purchased and then I modified it by splitting one side and adding pinch bolts.
This allows a much tighter attachment to the rudder post.

While I still have some play in the entire setup, under sail you never notice
it.

Since the tiller does not need to be raised off the stop on the tiller head as
often, The tiller head does not seem to have a problem with play (I also spent
some time with a file truing up the faces on the tiller head then soldered on
a stainless shim).

The one thing that I did not expect and came a surprise is that I have
increased the usable rudder angle. With the old system large rudder angles
forced you to rase the tiller near vertical making it hard to apply any force
not now.
