Dick, I replaced our 2 bladed prop with a 3 bladed last summer. Michigan
Wheel recommended a 13x9. We have a universal 5411 diesel which is
approximately 11 h.p. If you want to go first class consider a AutoProp.
I don't know if any Albergers have ever used one or considered using one.
I believe they develop maximum thrust both froward and in reverse and also
adjust for minimum drag when sailing. Schroeder 158 Sabrina

Dick,

The motor in #114 was replaced with a Yanmar 2GM20F rated at 13h.p. I was
running a 2 blade (sail) 13" diameter X 11" pitch which was fine under
normal conditions. I have run a number of calculations evaluating a number
of factors for a 3 blade replacement. The 3 blade which I will be
installing this spring is a 13" diameter X 12 pitch which should provide
more touque at lower r.p.m. I also replaced the shaft log, cutlass bearing,
shaft, thru hull, and seacocks since the motor was removed and I had access
to these areas. I removed the shaft when the motor was removed which was
very easy. Another recommendation is to replace the stuffing box with the
P.S.S dripless stuffing box, great product which doesn't require any
adjustments after the initial installation.

Any other questions pls ask.

Anyone:Some time back I read some mail that was sent concerning three
bladed props. Now I don't recall who it was from and could use some input
form anyone who has converted to diesel and is turning a three bladed
wheel.Hauled out my boat today pulled the engine, scrubbed the hull and
bottom, and finished just before dark with fresh coat of anti foulant. Now
I can honestly say I've seen all of my boat. For a boat thats 33 years
old remarkable.Not a single blister,gouge in the hull,only small
cavities where the layers of anti foulant paint chipped off.Back to
engines let me know what you repowered with and size of prop you use.How
did it effect vessel under sail and power. Were you able to use same
shaft,or needed to cut old one or get new shaft. Please reply promptly
I've got a week to get this done, shipyard work slow, but wife working
Ha!Ha!. Dick "High Spirits"#191 Galliano,La.
