    What can go wrong---- will. In checking my automatic bilge pump I
thought to blow through the line, oddly enough from the outside (she
being on the hard at the moment) and found to my surprise that I could
blow through it and obviously water could flow also. Upon investigating
I found a lump of bilge crud (unidentifiable but looked like mud) was
lodged inside the check valve  keeping it open and therefore worthless.
It was easy enough to clear it. Fortunately the valve was far enough
from the thru-hull to be reachable.
    Probably one of the things one should check when hauled out.
