Catching up on my e-mail for the past week, have been installing a new
diesel in my boat.To anyone wishing to repower with diesel and not
wanting to spend a lot of money,I found what I could afford and still
have a safer power unit aboard. Now I know that Westerbeke,Perkins,Yanmar
etc.are fine marine diesels,I repowered with Kubota.Everyone I spoke to
who has these engines in tractors, generators on boats swear by them that
you can't tear them up.The sportsfisherman docked next to my boat has
8000 hrs on his engine and never had any problems. This engine the p3-20
sm has a two year 2000 hrs warranty on everything, hurth marine gear 2:1
reduction.Filter,water pump,on front of engine.Used same shaft,and for
those who still have that 6" deck plate, can lean over the engine to
check transmission.Dim.are26x16.5x22.5,this is a fresh water cooled
engine,developes 20h.p @ 3600 rpm.I'm using the same 12x6 two bladed
prop,@ 2000 rpm I believe I'm close to hull speed @ 2300 rpm the exhaust
is completely under water so I throttle back to 2000.This engine weighs
in at 214 lbs thats 104 lighter than the atomic four. Now it turns left
hand I called Phasor Marine in Pompano Beach Fl.and was assured that the
gear could run either way with no problems. Its a little more noiser than
the gas engine but I can live with it.I traveled to Biloxi Miss. to pick
up my engine saving state taxes of around$500 dollars total price with
full deluxe panel $5395 with harness on engine.I have used this engine
for two weekends now and corrected my mistake with fuel problems and the
engine has performed well.Sorry for this long message, but if anyone is
looking to repower with diesel, this might be your answer.I think I've
made a good decision and only time will tell.If you have any questions
on this subject feel free to e-mail me,I'll be glad tyo help in any way
I can. "High Spirits"#191 Galliano,La.
