Dan, Can't help with the hatch, except to say any wooden boat builder or
repair man should be able to make one. Second, the stove: yes you will
have a little more fire when starting. Don't fill the little trough all the
way . About half will do. Then have a coffee pot or kettle with whatever
you are going to heat. after you light the primer, put the pot over it, it
tames the flame. Watch, when the primer is ALMOST burned away turn the know
for alchoal. it should pop up with a blue flame. If it is orange, you will
need to adjust the ring that controls the air at the bottom. Good idea to
wait til it cools a little. Sometimes tapping the burner with a small wrench
(don't pound) will dislodge some crud, and it will burn better. When it's
working right, the whole center unit will be red hot, and you.ll have a blue
flame.. Caution, don't try to turn it too low, it'll go out, then you have
to wait for it to cool and start over. Find one of those little pads that go
over the burner to cut the heat instead. Mine works great. Suggestion:
take it out, take it home, check everything out, clean it, and practice in
your garage or basement till you understand it.
