David (Swanson),

I visited one rigger in Annapolis (Annapolis Rigging I think) seven years ago
who wanted $250 to make up a pair. I dearly wish I could tell you for certain
that that's who it was.

I was too fund-depleted at the time, so I band-sawed the really terrible
looking (Douglas fir - I'm certain of it) original spreaders on Terrapin
(#254, 1967) in half to get a good profile, then traced and cut new ones out
of really clear white oak that a friend had around.

The original spreaders were perfectly sound inside. But of course, I had band
sawed them in half by that time... Sigh.

Let me know who makes them for you. I'll need a source, too. I'm tired of
climbing to paint the wood ones (or worse yet, looking up at ones that need
painting)!

Kevin Blanc
Terrapin, #254
