Hi Chris.

Thanks for the reply. I believe you had mentionned some time ago that you had installed a PSS shaft seal system. Are you satisfied with it ? >From your experience, prop & shaft removal is necessary to remove the rudder, therefore it would seem an opportune time to undertake the installation of a PSS. Any particular advice about its installation.

I also noticed on your web page that you have installed a new Edson tiller head. Would you have a part number ? My A30 had wheel steering on it when I bought it and I find it takes up too much cockpit space, is very cumbersome when coming from or going into the cabin and it was taking in water at the base. So I am going back to tiller steering.

Guy.

Guy,
Since you have to get a good 2 feet of rudder post out of the hull in order to fully remove the rudder, it is necessary to remove the prop and shaft (unless you have enough room to pull it into the engine compartment a few inches). it is a lot easier to remove if you can get the boat in some slings... ours was on jack stands and we had to dig an angled 3 foot hole under the keel... it wasn't fun!

Good luck,

To remove the rudder, do I need to remove the propeller (which BTW is a 3 blade) or both the propeller AND the drive shaft or (hopefully) neither ?

Thanks in advance for any help.
