I cut out a tapered slide from one piece of plexiglass with a simple wooden grip screwed to the top.  It slides into 4" wooden chocks mid-way down each side.

This allows me to see what I have stored up there and keeps the anchor rode odours contained as well as making it more comfortable in the berth.
