Thanks, Michael, for the response about the Yanmar 3GM30F.
Are there *disadvantages* to having a larger engine like this?  It does seem
way more than the boat needs.  From what I understand the only/primary
drawback might be that it won't last as long as a smaller one due to seldom
running under a load, which I gather is good for diesels.  Fuel consumption
a bit higher too...

Also, about the boat number:  There's a Whitby 6-digit number, beginning
with 306 and ending with 3 other digits.  Are the last three numbers the
actual boat number and the first two the length (30 ft. 6 in.)?  I'm
guessing this to be the case.

And one other thing-- how frequently do you guys recommend changing standing
rigging and making a very thorough chainplate inspection?  I understand from
others that the rigging change every 10 years or so is normal or reasonable.
This boat would be used for offshore/coastal cruising.  Any thoughts on
this?
