[Alberg30] Rigging

Shawn.

1. Forestay, backstay and upper shrouds should be 1/4 inch. Lower shrouds 3/16 inch. Go up one size for all wires if using SS #316 because it is weaker than SS #304.

2. Always use 1 x 19 for rigging. 7 x 19 wire is used when flexibility is required such as a wire halyard which has to run around a sheave, like a main wire halyard or wires used in steering systems.

3. Normally use 304 SS which is stronger than 316 SS. But If you will be cruising in the tropics 316 is recommended because it resist better to rust in that environment.

4. Swage fittings can do. But for superior strength, go for swageless fittings such as Sta-Lok or Norseman. They are re-usable and don't require a machine to attach the studs to the wire, you can do it yourself, they don't weaken the wire at the attachment point. Both brands are recognized by Lloyd's Shipping.

Sorry, no main for sale.

Cheers.

  Subject: [Alberg30] Rigging

I am replacing the rigging this year. Need to know:
  1. Diameter wire people are using?
  2. # of strands- Should I use 1x19?
  3. What # SS
  4. Terminal fittings?

BTW I am looking for a main in good shape, as well as, a 150 genny.

  Thanks,
  Shawn Orr
