Peter, regret I am not going to the Bahamas again this year or I would have
joined you. I am not sure if you have crossed the Gulf Stream before, if
you have and you know the routine ignore the rest of this. If not you may be
interested to know that two holding anchorages that are used by cruisers
waiting for a weather window are North Lake Worth at West Palm (for Memory
Rock, Mangrove Cay and Great Sale, then to the Abacos) and off the Miami
Yacht Club by MacArthur Causeway in Miami (for Bimini or the Cat Cay/Gun Cay
cut to the Banks and all points to Nassau). You may not find Alberg 30
cruisers there but there will be others like yourself who like company.
Be careful where you clear Customs and Immigration. The Marina at Cat Cay
charges $50 in addition to the Bahamian fees of $100, just for landing
there, and Sunday clearances cost extra. Green Turtle Cay is a good place to
clear if you are taking the Abacos route.
I am leaving the U.K. for Titusville on 24th and then will be off the Net
until mid May but if you have any questions I may be able to help with
please do not hesitate to contact me until the 23rd.
