If you don't already own the desired stereo unit, consider this. I installed
a standard car type dashboard mount unit through the plywood bulkhead
directly aft of the icebox. It's a neat, clean installation and easy to do.
Yes, the rear of the unit does extend into the port cockpit locker, but it's
so high (just below deck level) and such a small intrusion that it doesn't
bother my use of the locker. It's also far enough away from the locker hatch
that it's protected from the elements. Mine is 5 years old and no problems
so far. If it does start having moisture related problems, these generic
replacement units are fairly inexpensive.
