One more comment about a leaking rudder post. I also had a small constant
leak that around the rudder post where it entered the hull. This is the
newer style with the stuffing box. I gained access to the area as some
others have commented through a cutout in the port locker bulkhead.

I determined that the builtup glasswork where the rudder tube passes
through the inside of the hull was not well sealed and that the water was
making its way between the hull and the rudder tube. Working through the
locker cutout, I used a dremmel tool, drill w/ wire brush, and sandpaper
to clean up the area and expose a little more of the bronze tube where it
emerged through the hull. I then used 8"-10" long strips of 1" wetted
fiberglass material which was wrapped around the base of the existing
fiberglass on up and around the shaft where there was about 3/4" or so of
exposed bronze rudder tube. I seem to recall that the exterior of the tude
was threaded at that point and the glass cloth sealed well into the
threads. In all it took about an hour and has remained dry for three
seasons.
