[Alberg30] Battery cables?

Greetings,
In shopping for new battery cables to replace the corroded ones I now
have, I wonder about what gauge I should find. I understand that tinned,
multi-stranded (flexible) wire is best.

West Marine sells 4AWG which is good for ³continuous current draws up to
136 A.² They also have 2 AWG (heavier) for ³continuous current draws up to
178 A.²

I¹m sure that generally, heavier is better, but is the 2 AWG needed or
will 4 AWG do? This is running from a Universal 3-20 diesel (20 hp) to two
12 volt batteries, a conventional set-up, I¹d guess.

    Anyone know for sure?

Many Thanks!
