[Alberg30] A30 mast support beam

Dan Spurr wrote a book which i mention on my website,
www.georgianbaysailors.ca, in which he addresses mast compression and
rebuilding or installing a beam under the mast. Interestingly enough,
I was just reading it last night for the same problem on my
Challenger.
This book pretty much covers all of your questions. The book is The
Seaworthy Offshore Sailboat.
I would suggest (George, do you concur?) that the mast should come
down, since the standing rigging would have to be loosened anyway.
Two, the beam won't sag because you've spread the weight out over the
hull via the beam and as for three, I'll leave that to someone who
has done this job.
