[Alberg30] Cockpit Grating Material

Hi Bob, everyone!!!

Simplest cockpit grating design I ever saw;

1/2 or 3/4" inch by 1 and 1/2" teak pieces set athwartships, every 10 " or
so, on cockpit sole

Same size pieces, set 1/2 " apart running for and aft, on top of athwartship
pieces. One countersunk and plugged fastening at each intersection.

Obviously, much easier to measure and cut wood for this than the beautiful,
but very intricate interlocking teak gratings.

If one wanted to get 'fancy' with this simpler design, the central for and
aft pieces could be tapered, widest at the forward end, to account for the
narrower aft end of the cockpit. By tapering the center pieces, the side
pieces would be able to follow the dimensions of the cockpit very closely.
Alternatively, the side pieces would be tapered.

There are rubber 'tile' designs that would be very practical, and the easiest
to put in place, though not as salty looking. Usualy there are ads for them
in the classified section of Cruising World.

Hope all is well,
Lee
