I have had some experience sailing my A-30 in over 30 Kts wind, all on
inland lakes. In 40 Kts (reported) wind, the double reefed main alone
was OK upwind (the 2nd reef is pretty deep). We could make 5 MPH
indicated upwind, spilling a lot of wind. With the 100% working jib, we
made very little headway, spilling almost all the wind to avoid
excessive heel, and the boat was very difficult to control. At 30 Kts,
it's a little overpowered with the working jib and 2nd reef, but OK. I
like to sail it rail-down under those conditions on my warm fresh water
lake. (Cayuga Lake, one of the NY State finger lakes).

I've found that at about 20 Kts, the boat sails decently on the 130
genoa alone, but upwind performance is poor. That configuration is good
when it's pretty windy andthere are little kids on board, so we want to
minimize the anount of rigging being used. Practical sailor has written
a lot on whether sailing on headsail only is safe for the rig in
stronger winds. They seem to have concluded that rigs with double lower
shrouds, like the A-30, are much less prone to fail than single-lower
rigs under those conditons.

I hope this is of some help in addressing your question.
