You've gotten plenty of advice about heating the hose (I use the boat's
butane stove or one of those little 110-volt cup-of-water immersion
heaters), but I haven't noticed any about lubricants. Peggie Hall
(a.k.a. the Princess of Poop) recommends against most lubricants, such
as soap and petroleum based substances, for black-water systems as these
can provide a permanent path for odors to leak. Her recommendation is
K-Y jelly, available from your local pharmacy (or chemist, if you're in
Canada, eh?).
