i've also read that you want 3/32" around the window for you caulk which just happens to conveniently be the width of the edge of a popcicle stick.  btw, i rebedded my fixed ports on my alberg 29 last year with good results....one thing that i read that made a lot of sense was to let the caulk setup for several days before tightening the frame down.   also, make sure you have good light when you apply the caulk.  i was amazed to see (on close inspection) a couple pin hole spots lacking caulk after i first applied the stuff.  i'd never have caught them in less than very good light.    vinegar joe
