[Alberg30] Diesel Fuel-line dimensions

[Voyager Toronto]

I am installing a new Tempo gas tank. The fuel inlet and return on the 
ENGINE are both 0.33". The nearest hose bards I can get are 3/8" which I can 
attach to the supply side (fuel-takeoff at the gas tank and the 2 ports on 
the inline fuel filter), but the gas tank comes with a 1/4" unremovable fuel 
return barb. Will it matter if I make the return side 1/4" and the supply 
side 3/8". If there is a reason all lines need to be the same dimension, do 
I go 3/8" or 1/4"? [Optional question for bonus points: why?]
