George... Actually, wire nuts are better than crimps in the voltage drop 
department (better pressure & surface area), but you don't use a connector 
at mast top anyway.

As far as weight savings go, there is a half pound weight difference in the 
mast between your #16 & Larry Morris's #14, or the equivalent of strapping 
2 Big Mac patties halfway up the mast. I'm sure this will make your boat 
faster and you'll be beating Larry in every race this summer :-)
