I remember reading in Nasa Tech Briefs, quite some years ago, about a 
study where they found that properly made crimps were gas-tight, giving 
a more secure and better electrical contact than soldered connections. 
Of course, they weren't using the same sort of crimp fittings that we are.

I get very good crimps using the standard cheap crimp tool by using a 
pair of channel lock pliers on the crimp tool for additional leverage. 
I can ensure that the handles come together that way.

I'm not trying to talk anyone out of a high-quality crimp tool, which 
would be more convenient.
