[Alberg30] Hull etching

Hi Bill,

As far as I know there is no etched waterline on the hull. Besides, even if
there was, it would probably be lower than you would want it today. Over the
past 30+ years I think it is safe to say that the boats are heavier than
when origially constructed, due to water absorption, additional equipment,
or cruise/race supplies and stuff. In my experience the boats sit lower in
the stern and the waterline has had to be raised several times. Rule 1
(especially for racers) empty the lazarette, it is unsupported weight (this
storage area is in the overhang and is not supported by water). Rule 2 -
when repainting the boat - mark your water line before removing the old
paint. The challenge - getting the line straight and level with the water.
Good luck.

I seem to remember someone saying that when they sanded the hull on their
A30, they found etch marks where the original waterline stripe was painted.

Is that the case for anyone on this list? If so, where should I look once
the paint is off?

Thanks.
