[Alberg30] engine pan

Rob,
I would like to remove the mast plate from the deck to seal that area, the
original material from 1965 is breaking down. I have read many statements
concerning this task, what challenges lie ahead in removing the plate from
the deck.
1) Are the screws tapped into the glass or are there nuts/bolts holding this
plate to the boat?
2) It looks as though the previous owner removed the step, broke a few bolts
and retapped into the plate on deck.
Thoughts?
Stephen

Thanks--I meant the beam sisters, but it would be useful to have the specs
for both.
I don't know if you got an answer to your question about holes for the mast
baseplate--'twer me, I would try to duplicate the original, which isn't
hard. Drill three or four (depending on size of slot) holes in a line and
clean up with a file, etc. You can overlap the holes if need be when
drilling, but not more than, say, 25% of the diameter of the finished hole.
Use a drill press if you can. The slots are there to provide
adjustment--you may as well make it easy to do so; it was the designer's
intent.
Also, you might think about separating the mast plate from the deck with a
piece of eighth inch (.125) thick Teflon if you have enough bolt length. It
provides a useful and movable gasket.
