I've not used a rigid vang, but admit they have some appeal to me. Having
an adjustable boom topping lift is an extra step in sail evolutions, but
not too much extra work. I find I use my boom vang more as a preventer
(relocating the bottom part to port or stbd to reduce accidental jibes)
more than anything else. (I have a pretty decent traveller). Another thing-
I consider my 4 part vang as part of the emergency equipment to get a
comotose body out of water and back into boat-that would be boom/topping
lift,vang, and bosun's chair-I have a permanent 'backrest' on the chair-if
you follow.
