We had a BEAUTIFUL sail down the Chesapeake Bay for the Solomon's Island
overnight regatta on the 16th of July. It was a new moon and the fuel dock
at the cliffs was lesser-lit than in years past, making the star gazing
very worthwhile. Though it was partly overcast, we saw several shooting
stars.

There were six of us on the boat -- my husband and I and four 19-year-olds
who grew up in our neighborhood in Annapolis. We each drove a piece and
we all managed to stay awake on our offs. We very much enjoyed having a
willing and able crew and good company for the trip.

The breeze was light before dark, but picked up to a steady 7-10 through
the night, only to die in the mouth of the Patuxent as the sun rose again.
We tacked hugging the Eastern Shore most of the night and managed to
avoid the fish traps that ensnared others.

All in all it was a good sail. Can't wait 'til the breeze comes back in
September.
