Eddie, this worked for me. Empty the port side cockpit locker.Remove the ply
pieces that form the inner side of the locker. On my boat they are held in
place by screws. Now you have access to the rudder post but it may be awkward
and uncomfortable.I can get in the locker and I weigh about 195 pounds.Clean
the area thoroughly with strong detergent and fresh water. Identify exactly
where the leak(s)are and mark them with a Magic Marker. On TaitTait it
appeared to be porosity in the lay up.A small mirror and flashlight will let
you see behind the rudder post.
When the boat is hauled clean the area again with a wire brush on a Dremmel
not forgetting to clean the rudder tube.If the surface is glazed or gel coat
take it off with a grinding stone on the Dremmel. We are only talking about a
small area here.Wipe the area with acetone. If the leak appears to be one or
two small holes in the lay up open them a little with a drill, just enough to
to fill them with a drop of resin.Wet the cleaned area with resin and lay
some thin mat on as a first layer.Make sure there are no bubble or dry
spots. Then build up until there is a good layer of mat and resin over the
area.
I did this about three years ago and it has been dry since.
