On Checkmate there is (or was) a scribe mark that looked to be part of the 
original mold; it was gel coated anyway. It wouldn't take much sanding to 
smooth that mark away. 

Anyway, I raised my waterline 1" above that mark and went from there; the boat 
seems to ride right on that original mark when she is emptied of "junk".

I found that scribe mark prepping the hull the first time I did a soup to nuts 
paint job-bottom, boot stripe, and topsides.
