Gordon,

You are right. That is the way A30's were made. One the 'older' boats like 
yours, the deck is flat right up to the chainplate. On later models, the 
deck had a raised area around the chainplate. The discussion here is about 
adding a cover over the chainplate to help seal the joint.

Maybe my boat (# 275) is missing something.  I am assuming "chainplate 
covers" are a sort of slotted washer that goes over the portion of the plate 
that extends above the deck?  My boat has nothing of that sort. It just has 
a bit of caulking between the deck and the chainplate.  Or am I wrong?
