[Public-list] thru hulls

Dan,
The larger thru-hull fitting were 'real' thru-hull fittings. Only the 1/2"
ones were 'homemade' (engine intake; head intake; and galley intake). That
doesn't mean that you can forget about the larger 'real' ones. In time, they
will go bad too. For the small homemade ones, I have only seen one washer on
the outside of the hull. It was brazed to the pipe that they stuck through
the hull. When the washer corrodes away, you have nothing left holding the
pipe in place, except that it has been there for years.

Subject: [Public-list] thru hulls
well, i have removed my first thru hull. as usual, it was dark, so the
question, did whitby only have one washer on the outside of the hull, or is
there a possibility of one hiding somehow under caulk etc. also, in the 1998
alberg 30 edition of the maintenance manual it states the small thru hulls
need to be replaced. does that mean whitby used "real" thru hulls for the
larger diameter and i don't need to worry about changing them?
thanks in advance
dan
