[Public-list] Racor filters?

Greetings, O Mighty All,

    About the Racor filters, here's another question.

        The Racor 220/225 series filter came with the boat some years ago.
Replacement cartidges are $30+ dollars.

    Does anyone with a similar engine (mine's a 20 horse diesel Universal 3M
20B) use the smaller and significantly less expensive filter that takes 120
A or 120 B filter cartridges for $20/ea?  Those are about 2" high, 2.5-3" in
diameter and are rated for 15 or 20 gpm.  The part numbers are R 12S and
R 12T.  
    Why not use the smaller cheaper ones?  Yes, presumably you'd need to
change filters more often but I'll be not twice as often (making it cost
effective anyway).
