[Public-list] good cell phone provider for boaters?

Nextel was spotty on the Bay and Potomac River. But, when it worked, it was
very clear. They are a little behind on the technnology.

I have Cingular now and it works pretty well everywhere I've been so far
this year on the Bay and Potomac. Smith Island and South to the
Rappahannock.

I have a Handspring Treo 600 and use it on the boat for Internet access
connected to my laptop. Dial-up slow, but it works good. Sometimes I don't
have a signal initially, but turn off the wireless and turn it back on and
it gets a new or stronger cell and works great from then on.

It also has Internet access on the display and lets me get radar images and
send e-mails and surf the net. Here is my mobile page of links I use.

Cingular also has bluetooth phones. One of my friends has one and though the
screen is a bit smaller he can shoot video with it. Mine has a camera and
vide. Treo is coming out with a 610 model for Verizon I believe. Not much
difference but I think bluetooth is built in to that one.
