[Public-list] vented loop

Stephen,

It's coming out of the bottom of the holding tank. My assumption is that
it might be the original unit that came with the boat. Obviously, I'd
rather have it 1 1/2" but I can't change that.

Since you mentioned the 3/4" sea water intake, I had a heck of a time
getting the 3/4" on that intake - with jelly. I'm wearing a support on
my left arm today due to the tendonitis that flared up after the
encounter. But I won - it's on all the way.

James,

Where is the 3/4" coming from going into the 1 1/2". Also are you
installing
a holding tank in this configuration? The only 3/4 " I have in the
system is
the sea water coming into the head. Everything exiting is 1 1/2" from
the
head, out of the hull and into the tank. It is a mass of hoses and a lot
of
thought went into the design.

Stephen,

Thanks for the advice; ditto to everyone else that responded to my
question.
I put some of it together last evening and it is a job to say the least.
The
space, or lack of it, is just the start. The heat gun is a great idea as
I
found the hose to be extremely rigid. I'm in the process right now of
looking for a 90 degree elbow that will go from 3/4 to 1 1/2. Assuming
that
it might be difficult to find I'll use a 3/4 elbow to a "3/4 to 1 1/2"
straight fitting. It's the only way I can get to the y valve in the
confined
space that I have. I now believe that the experience of installing a
head in
such a small space with so many hoses going in various directions (and
fittings) shares much in common with how many people you can fit in a
phone
booth or VW.

Thanks again,

James,

There are many opinions on this subject. I installed the vented loop
when
the head was installed, the benefits out weight the cost. I used a
bronze
unit with a screw cap which provides access if anything clogs up, since
my
son was living on the Alberg and working at the boat yard during this
time.

The biggest issue was making the loops and bends that you describe. Buy
a
heat gun which definitely helps with the bends and KY Jelly as a lube,
these
are recommendations from the Alberg 30 Group and they make the job much
easier. Part of my installation was a holding tank which required
installing
a 90 degree elbow in the bulk head for the input.

Good luck,

Stephen

Hello everyone. I remember there was some discussion in the past in
regard
to vented loops for the head. As I can no longer access the messages
prior
to the last two months, does anyone have any ideas on whether it is
necessary to install the loop when connecting the head? I'm setting up
the
system now but it is proving a bit more frustrating than I would like
with
lines going all over the place. I'd like to make it as simple as
possible
while not forsaking safety.

Thanks,
