Bill,

It is odd thing is that you mention putting the boat in the water. This is
how the manufacturers mark the water line for new hulls. We made the same
mistake when painting #114, I was lucky my son made a tool to hold the
distance constant from bow to stern.

Can't really offer advice on the location. someone suggested to me to
tread water next to the boat on a calm day and mark the hull. Sounded
like a good idea but I didn't do that.

My dumb mistake that someone might learn from is that the waterline is
taller at the bow, thinner at the beam and even thicker than at the bow
in (or under) the stern. I totally forgot, taped the top of the line,
sanded the bottom of the line off and painted barrier coat up over
places where the waterline used to be.

When I went to re-tape and paint over my topsides, I painted an even
2.5" stripe from the bow to the stern. It doesn't look bad and probably
no one would really notice once in the water, but I know.
