It is screwed on to the stock. Put a pipe wrench on it an unscrew it. If it 
is sealed with caulking and maybe even 5200, you will need to heat it to 
soften that caulking. Don't burn the boat up!

Albergers,

Because the shaft seems a little loose, last weekend a friend and I tried to 
remove the casting that contains the shaft and bearing.  It is at the aft 
end of the keel appears to be surface mounted.  We removed the bolts top and 
bottom and beat on it a little but it wouldn't budge.  Any suggestions 
please as to how to get it off without causing damage?
