[Public-list] Boot Stripe

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I did have the foresight to mark a level
line on the inside of the hull before taking her out in the spring of last
year and have adjusted the trailer so she matches that line fore and aft. I
also adjusted crosswise by putting the 4' level across the seats and the top
of the main hatch. Some tank changes may make that moot however. I think I
should borrow a laser level from one of the subs we work with and check if
the lower line is level. I do recall that there was more bottom paint
"freeboard" at the bow then amidships when she was in the water. I wish I
had marked the actual water line (where the bottom paint is darker because
it was under water full time) before I hauled the boat.
Now, after removing the boot stripe and getting about 4 more inches of
topsides (at least visually), I think I want to accent freeboard height as
much as possible. I always thought the main cabin top was proportionally
just little too tall in relation to the freeboard amidships and aft. With
more freeboard, it seems to balance better without making the boat look
stubby.
I did sail on a 41' boat that had a red bottom, black hull and no boot
stripe (very practical owners not interested in masking more than once). I
always thought it a little funny but it would certainly accent the
freeboard.
