The mast-step support brace is a common repair for the boat, strengthening the bulkhead support for the mast. I would presume you could definitely  day sail with 7 people on the boat and probably coastal cruise for a weekend with four. It is not a large boat by todays standards. I am sure others will provide more information about both of these topics. 

There is an A-35 Pearson boat that needs work on the Chesapeake. It is more capable of coastal and bay cruising and overnighting for 4 adults. You might want to check that boat out on ebay. 

I know there was a boat for sale on ebay up in NJ but it was removed from auction at ebay. Another is for sale in SC. Here in Texas there is a very nice boat for sale close to Dallas.
