Roger,

Don't use aluminum for waste holding tanks. There is loads of advice on the 
web and loads of good reasoning why to avoid aluminum.

Mike,

I agree with you RE taking measurements.  If intended to go under the aft
end of the of a V berth, that tank would not come close to fitting in #148
(1966, no liner).  I am doing custom aluminum tanks and the best I can do is
18" deep and 18" port/starboard (about 27" fore/aft) for a tank that is
triangular in cross section.  Plus, the shape in plan is a parallelogram,
not a rectangle.  With a custom tank fitted to the available volume (except
curving the tank bottom to conform with the curve of the hull) I will get
about 18 gallons.  I can't imagine getting more than about 10 to 12 with a
stock tank.  The stock one I removed held 6 gallons.
