The race was interesting and was a big learning experience. I raced without
a spinnaker which caused us to fall far behind during the first day when the
wind was at our backs. We had some heavy weather crossing Saginaw Bay on
Lake Huron the second day during which we sailed with a storm jib and a
double reefed main and still managed to make 7.5 knots. As everybody on
this list would expect the boat performed well. She was not the fastest,
but was likely the most seaworthy in the fleet. Others suffered knock downs
and broken rigs. At the end of the race we had no wind and stood short of
the finish line for 10 hours. The race was really set up for "big time"
racers. We were probably the only boat of 260 plus that raced with white
sails. All in all, it was a great time and I am planning on making a go of
it again next year.
